About Us

The Whitehall Township Bureau of Fire, which is also referred to as the Whitehall Fire Department, is responsible for providing fire protection services for the Township of Whitehall in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. The fire department is a Township Bureau in the same manner as Police and Public Works, with a 'Bureau Chief' reporting to the Township Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Board of Commissioners.

Our department consists of five fire stations. These fire stations are located in what were the original villages that comprised Whitehall Township...Fullerton, West Catasauqua, Hokendauqua, Egypt and Cementon. For more information about each station and the equipment and personnel there, please see the "Stations" section of our website.

With exception of the Fire Chief, all Bureau personnel are volunteer. The fire chief position transitioned from volunteer to paid in 1986 as the demands of the job became greater and greater.

Our volunteers are on call 24 hours a day with weekly training taking place on Monday evenings starting at 7pm. We are dispatched by the Lehigh County 911 Communications Center. When the need arises we also respond to assist neighboring municipalities such as Coplay, South Whitehall, North Whitehall, Catasauqua and the City of Allentown.

Our members spend hundreds of manhours each year conducting fire prevention programs at the various schools, day cares and nursing homes located throughout the Township. Our annual school fire prevention program takes place every year in October during Fire Prevention Month. We take great pride in delivering the message of fire safety to the kids. This includes recently purchasing a fire safety trailer to further enhance their educational experience to prepare them for how to act and what to do if they experience a fire in their home.

Fundraising for the department is conducted at both the station level and also on a department wide level through the Whitehall Township Active Volunteer Firefighter's Association. Our annual Haunted Parkway event takes place every weekend in October. It is the Association's single largest annual fundraising event.

For further information or if you have any questions about the Whitehall Township Bureau of Fire, please contact the fire chief David Nelson at his office. The telephone number is 610-437-5524 ext 166.
